Small Business Advice in the UK

Small Business AdviceMany small businesses look forward to the day, when they can afford small business advice, sadly, that day may never happen; unless they get some sound business advice while they are still a small business and still in business.

Many small businesses fail in their first 18 months, not because they don't have a good product or service, but because they didn't plan the steps they needed to take to be profitable and be around long enough to get the return on their investment of time and money.

The good news is that many people have walked the road of being a small business and are available to help you to the next stage of your journey. Fortunately, business advice is tax deductable and when scheduled and budgeted into a business plan, it can be very rewarding for not just the business owners, but the whole staff.

Staff and co-directors need re-assurance that the leadership have a plan and the plan is working with measurable results. Many of our clients already have the answers themselves, they just need a catalyst to 'bounce ideas off' and help with documenting the plan and effectively communicating it to their investors and staff.

Some of our clients have told us that the business advice we give is invaluable and great when it is tax deductable too. We offer small business advice as well as medium business advice, however the main difference is the impact can be greater on a small business than an already successful business. Our team of business consultants can give advice on business, plus personal; business coaching, to help you get the most out of your business life and it's impact on your leisure life and family.

Vision and Strategy - Smiths Medical

Business Advice Brief

To help facilitate an understanding of strategy to senior members of the Registration team and to support an implementation plan for the global roll out of the strategy.

Business Profile

Smiths Medical is a £600m business, part of the Smiths Group and provides medical devices for use in the healthcare sector around the world. The Registration team is an integral part of the business where the practice of 'no registration, no sale' has huge implications to turnover and legal compliance if the registration process fails or is not in place.

Business Advice Report

Having taken senior management through the tenants of what is strategy and why it is important, a facilitation role by [W]sq solutions enabled the group to develop a clear focus on linking financial benefits of the business with effective registration and how to gain visibility and prominence withn the business.

A key part of facilitating the strategy was to help the team foster greater crossfunctional relationships to support strategic changes. This took place with greater cooperation demonstrated with the Marketing and the Customer Services team.

The benefits of the Business Advice were several:

  • Clear Registration strategy now in place
  • Transfer of skills to senior staff on creating and implementing a business strategy
  • Communication relationships engaged at Board level and throughout the business
  • Roll out of strategy within the Registration team which meant changes and productivity gains in processes and working practices
  • Forward strategic planning meant the ability to justify headcount based on volume throughput and turnover benefit to the business
  • The strategy and approach of the registration team has been rolled out to other parts of the global business
